Happy New Year 2012

I hope we all have healthy and happy 2012 :)

My year-end was so busy that when I realized it was already 2012...
I was cooking all day long and it was too bad that my darling bursted the boiling water for soba (at 23:55) so I had to clean up and cook in the end X(

I hope I have "enough time" for anything this year!!! LOL

2nd Marital Anniversary

On November 22nd in 2009, we filed our marriage paper!!!

It's been 2 years since then♥

(Our wedding and marriage days are different. hehe)

Today is a weekday, so we celebrated our anniversary on Saturday. The weather on this day was pretty bad but we had a romantic walk at Tokyo Midtown: Starlight Garden!

For dinner, we didn't book any restaurant but my darling found a cozy teppanyaki restaurant nearby called Devant des P.T.T.

On this day, there was a 120th party at GOTO florist, the florist who designed our place for wedding :) We took a pic with our coordinator!!! We are very happy to keep in touch with her since then!!!

DIY Aroma Hand Cream and Perfume

As I wrote before, I love aromatherapy since our wedding preparation!

Yesterday, there was a 5th anniversary party at my favorite aromatherapy salon and we had a chance to make our own aroma hand cream and perfume. They were pretty easy and fun to make that I would never know if I didn't participate this party.

For my hand cream, I used Roman chamomile, orange sweet and sandalwood. They are moisturizing essential oils.

Then for my perfume, I used basil, grapefruit, and petitgrain. Those combination makes people energetic and happy :D

We had some foods made with fresh herbs, too!

Also, they gave us some free gifts. My favorite Veda Vie Ginger Syrup, herb tea, and herb soap!!!

I had a good time :D
I wish I have more time and money to get their aromatherapy massage!!!

What would you do if you have some time and money?! hehe

Our 1st Wedding Anniversary at TATSUYA KAWAGOE Restaurant

Tatsuya Kawagoe is a very popular celebrity Italian chef in Japan. He has an Italian restaurant called TATSUYA KAWAGOE (タツヤ・カワゴエ) in Daikanyama which is reserved for three months in advance!!! So 3 months ago, I called the restaurant and made a dinner reservation! However, a month later, my darling was invited to his friend's wedding on our anniversary day, so I was pretty shocked that we have to cancel it… but fortunately, they changed our dinner reservation to lunch reservation, so we could celebrate our anniversary there today on 10/10. (Our wedding post is HERE.)

Did I expect too much!? LoL
The restaurant was normal. The food they serve was not as fancy as I've heard. Only the thing I could say is they use pretty good ingredients. So I would give 5 stars for the ingredients but for the creativity, maybe 2 stars…

And the waiter was weird… the lady next to us went to the restroom and she didn't come back for maybe 5 minutes. There was only one restroom at this restaurant, so of course other people were waiting. The waiter then asked the other lady at the same table if her companion is okay at the restroom… Unbelievable Question! Of course I said to my darling that I will go to the restroom later at the station… I think the restaurant was pretty uncomfortable with too many waiters watching us!!!

I pretty much understand that Tatsuya Kawagoe once said he wants to close the restaurant… it is worth to pay for the ingredients but not worth to wait for 3 months!

Anyways, those who read my blog might already know but we filed our marriage paper on November 22nd, 2009! So the next anniversary is coming soon!!! I think I should ask my darling to decide the restaurant since he is much better at selecting cozy restaurant!!!

Below are the dishes we had today ;D

Whoa! They use the cup I have. hehe

Yakitori - Video Recipe

On the weekend, there was a small festival at our residence (condo) and my darling (chef TJ) was assigned to cook Yakitori. Thanks to my darling, I did nothing but could shoot this video! I hope you like it!!!

This video will show you how to grill Yakitori (skewered chicken) with gas Yakitori grill! Of course you can use your BBQ grill!

how to make Yakitori
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jtgDGMEDxk

It was very interesting to know how to become a Yakitori vendor! hehe

In the very beginning of the video, I will show you what other food stalls were there at the festival! So, please watch carefully ;D

---------------------------------

Yakitori

Difficulty: Very Easy
Time: 10min
Number of servings: as many as you want

Necessary Equiptment:
bamboo skewers
yakitori stove

Ingredients:
boneless chicken thigh (or any meat of your choice)
yakitori sauce or salt

Directions:
1. Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces (remove the skin if you prefer).
2. Thread chicken onto skewers (with long onion if you prefer).
3. Tare (Sauce): Begin grilling the chicken on both sides without the sauce. When the meat is done, dip into the sauce and grill lightly. However, sometimes it gets too smoky if you grill with the sauce, so we didn't grill it with the sauce but dip it into the sauce to finish. Ebara's Yakitori sauce works amazingly delicious in that way!
4. Shio (Salt): Sprinkle some salt on the chicken and grill the chicken on both sides until done.

We used Ebara Yakitori Sauce (エバラ やきとりのたれ) - for professional use
The household use looks like THIS :D

Tōrō Nagashi (灯篭流し)

We have uncertain weather these days. I think it rained all days last week like rainy season.

On Saturday (8/20), we had Tōrō Nagashi (灯篭流し) event near home. It was postponed to that day since it rained hard on Friday.

Tōrō nagashi (灯籠流し) means to flow lantern. It is a Japanese ceremony in which participants float paper lanterns (chōchin) down a river. This is primarily done on the last evening of the Bon Festival: festival based on the belief that this guides the spirits of the departed back to the other world.

The boat in the river carried all the lanterns. Sorry for the bad quality...

My darling and I don't have a tradition of doing this, so we watched the lanterns floating along the river. They were beautiful but the flow of the river was so slow that they were still.

Do you have any traditional event in summer in your country?!

Aoyama 2nd Love Couple Running

Yesterday, my darling and I joined Aoyama 2nd Love Couple Running event at Tokyo National Stadium (国立競技場).

We ran 8km (5miles) including 3 Love Zones: piggyback zone, three-legged zone, and holding hands zone♥♥♥

It was nice and cool at high 21C (69F) yesterday, so we had a good run. We all received the Love award :D

How was your weekend?!

Good and Bad 8th Anniversary...

Yesterday (8/11) was the 8th anniversary since I dated with my darling. We put off our celebration to the weekend but my darling bought me a nice sunflower bouquet that made me really happy!

At the same time, he opened an invitation to his friend's wedding and realized it was on 10/10, when we reserved a famous restaurant (hard to book) to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary X'( Of course, we canceled the restaurant... It is nothing to do with anyone, but I was kind of shocked...

However, this morning, my darling taught me a plan for the anniversary that we are going to stay at a hotel on 10/10! Yay!!!

I know... he did a great job to cheer me up. LoL

Summer 2011 in New York

Hi! I'm back now :D

6 days in NY were amazingly fast. When I leave Japan, I had too many things to do, so I thought leaving them behind for 6 days is not good, but now I think I should have planned to stay more days!!! LoL

Day 1 (7/1):

This was our fast time to take Japanese airline ANA (All Nippon Airways) because there wasn't any empty seat for the cheaper ones (usually we take Delta or Continental). What surprised us was their meals!!! They were amazingly delicious!!! Free alcohol, of course :) I watched 4 movies since the seat was very comfortable. Time we arrived in NY was noon, so we took a walk outside (took a pic in front of 23 foot tall giant yellow teddy bear) and met our friends at night. Every year we stay at Grand Hyatt. The room was nicely renovated this year :)

Day2 (7/2):

We had a breakfast at Grand Central Terminal and went for a walk at The High Line! The weather was really hot but nice. I took my 10th hula video at Hudson River Park (Pier 62). I will write about it later. For lunch, we went to The Fat Radish where I found on a Japanese magazine. Their foods were very healthy and delicious with lots of vegetables: omelette with a bunch of greens :D Then for dinner we went to a Malaysian restaurant called Nyonya. What we ordered were their popular dishes: Home Made Roti Canai (Indian Pancake), Sizzling Nyonya Tofu, and Singapore Rice Noodles. They were all great!

Day 3 (7/3):

We went Rabbithole Restaurant in Brooklyn for Breakfast. I had their recommended Stuffed French Toast! Yummy :) My darling had eggs benedict! Then we shopped around and went to the Brooklyn Brewery. My darling was really excited having a beer there ;) It was raining all day long so we enjoyed shopping. My darling enjoyed shopping at Superdry and bought their tees and bag for himself! For dinner, we went to La Lanterna di Vittorio where is famous for Pizza and Pumpkin Cognac Cheesecake! They were of course delicious!!!

Day 4 (7/4):

OMG! I finally found a place to try the 3-tiered afternoon tea!!! Alice's Afternoon Tea serves the afternoon tea menu before and after noon, which is cool :) So, we had The Mad Hatter menu (2 for $37). Their scones (especially the mixed berry) and sandwiches were amazingly delicious! Yay!!! Then we shopped upper west and walked down to the hotel through the central park. We had a dinner at Rock Center Cafe (as usual - we eat here every year). It's the place where my darling and I dated for the 2nd time. On the Broadway, we found cool Forever 21 electric bulletin board! Can you see us waving hands?! LoL We didn't join the crowds, so we kind of saw the July 4th fireworks from 42nd street. hehe

Day 5 (7/5):

Can you believe it's already the 5th day?! Yeah, I was kind of feeling in that way at this time :'( We took a breakfast at hotel's Market. They are open 24 hours, which is very convenient! For a snack, we went to my long-planned Luke's Lobster! A Taste of Maine, you can try half of lobster, crab, and shrimp! I shared it with my darling but I thought I could eat them all by myself later. hehehe Then we walked up to Union Square to shop (we tried YOGO frozen yogurt - sold on trucks) and went to Limelight Marketplace (originally a church). I never get tired of shopping! For dinner, we went to Hummus Place and tried their recommended dishes: Hummus Masabacha and Shakshuka. No meats?! Yeah, they serve vegetarian dishes. The foods were delicious but we kind of needed meats. haha

Day 6 (7/6):

7/6 is the special day! My darling proposed to me at The Pond of Central Park 2 years ago :) So, we kind of coming back here every year at the same time eating breakfast. (We bought our breakfast at Pret A Manger. I really loved the foods there!) I thought my darling might not answer to my question, but I asked him "why time flies?" then he said, "kiss me and time will stop". Wow! Is that true?! I kissed him, of course. Nothing happened!!! haha We love walking together in the city. Of course, time flies… At night, we planned to go to a cozy restaurant in Battery Park, but it was under renovation (or it was gone…) so we moved to the South Street Seaport. There we found Lobster Paella ($75) at Il Porto. It was pretty expensive, but my darling said okay because it's our last dinner. Thanks XOXO I really enjoyed the dish. Also, I talked him about my recipe stuff (kind of reality) that is not going well, and he said "I don't expect anything, so do as you want." How come he is so nice to me :)

Day 7 (7/7):

Time to go home. Our flight was early in the morning, so we left the city at 8AM X( The way back was Continental, so it was not that comfy like ANA, but was friendly on the wallet!!!

Sorry for my lousy typing… I really want to write more in detail and post more pictures, but need to move on and create my new recipes for contests and YouTube videos! But actually, I spent 2 hours writing this post! LoL

I shoot one video today, so I am going to edit it this week! And tomorrow I have new hula class to attend…

I wish I could have more time!!!

See you again :)

Loco's TABLE MAHANA

For our 8th anniversary celebration, we've been to a Hawaiian restaurant called Loco's TABLE MAHANA in Ebisu :D

Dinner here is really Hawaiian with flowers and tropical seasonings :) Loco Moco rice bowl is a must order dish! And unexpectedly, the pork rib with BBQ sauce was pretty good!

Here there's a hula show and one of my hula teachers dances every other week!!! I shoot a video of the dance "Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai" which we are learning right now! I will share it privately at my YouTube soon!

It was such a wonderful night.

Have a good day!!!
