Cold or Hot Food?!

On Saturday, the weather was cool, so my darling and I had sushi for dinner. The broiled saury was in season, so it was the best of all, but I forgot to take a pic :P

When the weather is cold, I prefer to eat sushi, ice-cream (I like to eat it in winter! LoL), yakiniku, hot udon (not hot soba), etc...
When the weather is hot, I prefer to eat cold soba, pasta, pizza, Hawaiian, etc...

I drink hot coffee all season. haha

Do you have any food preference depending on the temperature?!

Afternoon Tea Failed X'(

On the weekend, my darling and I've been to Futakotamagawa (again) to have the three-tiered afternoon tea of my dream!

However I erroneously assumed that the Afternoon Tea TEAROOM has the three-tiered menu… just because it's name is afternoon tea… so we ended up eating seasonal cakes. sobs X'(

Seasonal Shortcake (shortcake with yogurt mousse and citrus jelly)

Seasonal Cheesecake (rare and baked cheesecake with ginger sauce)

Since we went back to Futakotamagawa, I finally bought the flower bag that I was thinking whether to get it or not… because it wasn't on sale I couldn't make an immediate decision. haha

Then we shopped at Tokyu Foodshow where many famous delicious delis (and sweets shops) gather together selling foods to go :D Here are the list of the shops there.

We found something called Singapore rice :D

We shopped at 5 delis and I served them all on one plate "for each" so that we don't fight over food! LoL

Do you separate plates for each?! hehe

Till next time ;)

Whole Fruit Jelly

My darling and I sometimes try out whole fruit jelly. This kind is pretty pricey (costs about $4 each) so we always get one and share in case if it tasted awful. So far we tried apple and orange and both were delicious!!!

Apple Red Wine Jelly produced in Nagano prefecture.

Orange Jelly produced by Miyata Fruit.

Yummy!!!

Pasta Pomodoro with Home-Made Basil

My mom gave my darling a planter of basil for his belated birthday gift. I don't know why she gave him the basil, but my darling liked it :)

Today, he picked some leaves, so I cooked pasta pomodoro with basil for lunch!

Yummy :P

We once tried to grow tomatoes and other veggies in our garden of old home but they were all eaten by locusts, so I'm not that positive about growing something but at least we can keep this pot in home, I hope we have no problem!

Char-Grilled Anago

I think some of you now know that I'm crazy about Anago (conger eel)!

My grandpa used to catch tons of Anago and char-grilled them for us. I remember I ate more than ten of them at once! mmm yummy!!!

But things had changed and just before my grandpa passed away, people were banned to catch Anago. (It's pretty expensive to buy at stores...)

Anyways, char-grilled ones are the best! Unlike eel, Anago is not at all greasy! So, I love it!

I just received them as a gift! I think it is the perfect gift for me. hehe

Happy 36th!!!

Now my darling is 36 years old. I met him when he was 28. Time flies!!!

Since 4/4 was a weekday, I couldn't prepare much for his birthday but some cakes! I simply wanted to let him blow out the candles on his birthday so I bought them on my way home :)

Yes! He was happy like a child ;)

I'm reducing the image size since he's wearing his pajamas. LoL

Of course, we ate the cakes in the morning because we are not young enough to eat sweets before bedtime ;P

How do you celebrate your loved one's birthday?

BTW, it was my 800th post since I started this blog. WOW!!!

Lipton Limone C

This 500ml bottled Lipton Limone C (lemon tea) contains a day's worth of vitamin C (100mg), and surprisingly, it is ZERO calorie! Amazing, huh?!

It's a quite refreshing, sweet and sour lemon tea, that I have bought it for 3 times this week. LoL

I know 100mg is not enough for girls, but better than nothing! I hope it will be available overseas someday soon ;)

Ikanago no Kugini 2011

I am posting this every year! LoL

Ikanago no Kugini is my favorite tsukudani (food boiled in soy sauce) made with Ikanago (sand eel/sand lance). I really can't stop myself eating it with white rice! Yummy :P

Ikanago no Kugini is a famous Tsukudani in Hyogo prefecture. My grandma, who lives there cooks a few kilograms of "Ikanago no Kugini" every year for us in Tokyo.

It is usually cooked and eaten around the end of February or early March, when the fish is about an inch long. After its season, Ikanago goes deep in the sea where is cooler. Then it goes under the sand and aestivate.

BEARD PAPA'S Fondant au Chocolat

My darling bought me BEARD PAPA'S Fondant au Chocolat for Valentine's Day! It uses the best chocolate for fondant au chocolat to bring out the rich finish! If you eat it as is, you can enjoy the richness of the chocolate. mmmmmmmm :)

Of course, you can warm it up but I prefer to eat it cold or at normal temperature because I don't want to eat fast chasing the running chocolate. haha.

BTW, BEARD PAPA'S is famous for their cream puffs.

We were both busy yesterday, so I thank him for his kindness and consideration :)

Actually, it snowed a lot last night. Walking along the icy sherbert road takes longer than usual to reach the train station X(

But spring is almost here!!!

GOPAN

GOPAN is the world's first rice bread cooker by Sanyo, that can easily bake "rice bread" from rice grains. It was released on 11/11/2010.

Sanyo made it possible after four years of trial and error! As you might know, rice is the staple of Japan. By enabling rice to be eaten as a bread, Sanyo aimed to encourage people to consume more rice!

What they finally came up with was the "rice paste method". In this new method, the rice is soaked in water, and cut with a rotary blade to form a very fine paste.

It's simple to use. In the bread pan, place 220g of washed rice, 210g of water, 4g of salt, 16g of sugar, and 10g of shortening. In the automatic ingredient dispenser on the upper side of the body, place 50g of wheat gluten and 3g of dry yeast.

Then, press the start button. After 4 hours of the automatic process of milling, kneading, rising, and baking, a tasty rice bread is baked!

Instead of using special flour such as rice flour, I think GOPAN conveniently uses rice which is kept in most Japanese households! However, the current price is 79,000 yen!!! I will go for it when it become cheaper. haha

青の洞窟 Award Ceremony

On 2/5 (Sat.), my darling and I attended the award ceremony of 青の洞窟 idea recipe contest. 青の洞窟 (Ao no Doukutsu - blue cave) is one of the pasta brands of Nissin Foods. The contest was to cook spaghetti in ONE pan using 青の洞窟 spaghetti and pasta sauce. I won the 2nd price!

The ceremony was held at an Italian restaurant called Mario i Sentieri in Nishiazabu. On this day, the owner Italian chef Mario Frittoli demonstrated his original carbonara with fruits! The sour taste of fruits gave an amazing touch to carbonara and was fabulous!

Then we enjoyed his authentic Italian lunch with wines! As seen in pictures, all dishes were beautifully presented. They were dainty with discreet seasonings.

Chef Mario said he always cooks from his heart. And contacts between people makes him enjoy cooking. Of course, we had a good time with the Chef and other contestants :D

Grazie!
